Privacy notice
Goose is in pre-launch preview. This notice explains, in plain language, what we collect today and why. We will update it, and tell the people it affects, before any Best Friend membership is sold.
Pre-launch version · September 2026
Who we are
Goose (company registration pending) is the data controller for the personal data described here. Our registered company name and address will be added once the company is incorporated. You can contact us about privacy by emailing hello@ourgoose.com.
When you register your interest
Registering your interest does not create an account. We collect only what you type into the form:
- If you’d like to be a Best Friend: your first name and email address, and, if you choose to tell us, your town or area, what kind of dog you’d love to support and how you heard about Goose. If you arrive from a dog’s page or a friend’s invite link, we note which one.
- If you register a rescue: your name, email address and the rescue’s name, and, if you choose to add them, your role, your town or region, roughly how many dogs are in your care, your website or social link, charity number, a message and how you heard about Goose. If you arrive through a friend’s invite link, we note which one.
We use these details only to contact you about Goose’s launch or, for rescues, the pilot, because you asked us to (your consent). They are stored with Supabase in London. We keep them until you ask us to delete them, or for 24 months after Goose launches, whichever comes first. You can withdraw at any time by emailing hello@ourgoose.com, and we will delete your details.
Other things we collect
- Account data, if you created an account during our earlier preview. Your name, email address and a securely hashed password, plus the details you chose to add (such as a username and notification preferences).
- Follows, likes and saves. Which dogs and rescues you follow, the posts you like and the dogs you save. Others only ever see totals (for example “120 followers”), never who; your saved dogs are visible to you alone.
- Comments and reports. Comments are public and show your first name and last initial. You can edit or delete your own; a deleted comment disappears from Goose but is kept, hidden, for moderation records. Reports you send are seen only by Goose and the rescue that published the post.
- Earlier pre-launch sign-ups. If you joined our earlier waitlist or made a no-charge reservation during the preview, your email address and the choices you made on that form. Ask us and we will delete them.
- Payment data, once memberships open. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach Goose; we store your Stripe customer and subscription references, plan and status. No payments are taken during the pre-launch preview.
- Emails we send. A record of which account and optional emails we sent you, so we can honour unsubscribes and investigate problems.
- Technical data. Your IP address and browser details, used briefly to keep the site secure and to limit abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts).
- Usage analytics, only if you allow them (see Cookies below).
- Photos of your own dogs, if you added any during an earlier preview. That feature has closed: nothing new can be added and existing photos are no longer shown anywhere on Goose. Ask us and we will delete them.
Why we use it
- To contact you about Goose’s launch or pilot when you register your interest (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
- To run your account and the features you use, and later your membership (performing our contract with you).
- To keep Goose safe: moderating comments, handling reports and preventing abuse (our legitimate interests).
- To send account emails, and optional updates such as digests and milestone news that you can switch off at any time from any email or your settings.
- To understand how Goose is used, only with your consent.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers. Today these are Supabase (database, sign-in and photos, stored in London) and Vercel (website hosting). When we switch the features on, we will also use Resend (email), Stripe (payments, once memberships open) and PostHog (analytics, hosted in the EU, only with your consent), and we will update this notice first. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, it must use safeguards recognised under UK law. Rescues see only what the product shows them: how many followers and Best Friends a dog has, never who you are or your payment details.
Cookies
- Sign-in cookies that keep you logged in. Essential; set only when you log in.
- A referral cookie for 30 days when you arrive through a friend’s invite link, so we can credit them if you register or join. Essential to that feature.
- Your analytics choice, remembered for 180 days so we don’t ask again on every visit. Essential.
- Analytics cookies (PostHog), set only after you say yes on the analytics banner. Events describe actions (a dog followed, a page viewed) using ids and counts, never names or free text. We never record your screen or what you type.
You can change your analytics choice here at any time:
What we never do
- No advertising tracking, and no selling or renting of your data, ever.
- No analytics before you consent, and no session recording at any point.
- No sharing of your details with rescues beyond the totals described above.
How long we keep it
We keep interest registrations until you ask us to delete them, or for 24 months after Goose launches, whichever comes first. We keep account data for as long as your account is open, and delete it when you ask us to, except where we must keep a record for legal, accounting or safety reasons (for example, moderation records and, once memberships open, payment records).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. You can also unfollow, unsave, delete your own comments and manage email preferences yourself. To make a request, contact us by emailing hello@ourgoose.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
